David Tennant
David Tennant is one of those celebrity name changers who was
actually born David John McDonald, which makes more sense being Scottish. The name change was inspired by Pet Shop Boy half, Neil Tennant, and because he discovered there was already a David McDonald as a member of the Equity union. David was an established actor on stage before he gained worldwide fame for playing the 10th Doctor in the BBC's Doctor Who series. Indeed, it was on stage that he stripped for an audience wearing nothing but a policeman's helmet. The normal role for a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama?
Those of you who are not fans of the great Doctor will probably have come across David in TV dramas Casanova or Einstein and Eddington and probably in the 2005 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie when he played Barty Crouch Jr.
So David's career developed with a lot of work with the Royal Shakespeare company, specialising in comic roles like Touchstone in As You Like It and later took roles at the Royal National Theatre in London, such as Nicholas Beckett in What the Butler Saw, which is that time he appeared without any clothes on. But obviously Tennant is now best known for playing Doctor Who from 2005 to 2010, a fairly long reign after Christopher Eccleston, but fans are still saddened by his leaving a role a did so well.

David was most recently naked as Alan Hamilton in the 2007 Andy DeEmmony drama Recovery, the head of a building business and doing really well in life. Then his character is hit by a car and he goes into a coma, eventually rising as a very different person. There are several shots of his bare bum in the hospital after having a shower and then another rear nude shot later when he is at home and his wife played by Sarah Parish attempts to dress him. Not great, but luckily live audiences were treated to a full frontal on stage a 1995 Joe Orton play, wearing only the police helmet. I've managed to dig out a black and white photo of that.

At the end of 2008 David had back problems which resulted in surgery for a
prolapsed disc. Obviously we will still be treated with another Doctor Who series from David in to 2010. Tennant is also
involved in a Stephen Poliakoff project called 1939, a historical tale set around a British family on the eve of WWII, also starring Eddie Redmayne who I think had some kind of gay romance role in a previous appearance, hunky Asier Newman and charming Charlie Cox.
